 About Heidi

Heidi T. Apolonia, RFM, CAP is a Registered Family Mediator specializing in separation and divorce, and a Certified Advanced Practitioner with the Association of Professional Mediators. She has spent more than 20 years working with families and brings extensive experience from both private practice and the family justice system.

Heidi has supported Alberta families through some of the most difficult transitions a family can experience. She is a former Caseflow Coordinator and Family Court Counsellor with the Alberta Court of Justice and Court of King’s Bench, and has supported Alberta Justice programs including Parenting After Separation, Parenting After Separation High Conflict, and Focus on Communication in Separation. She continues to serve Alberta families as a Roster Mediator for Alberta Justice.

Her work focuses on helping separating and divorcing parents move through conflict in a way that keeps their children at the centre. Heidi works with families experiencing high conflict and helps parents develop practical communication and parenting strategies that reduce children's exposure to adult conflict while allowing them to maintain healthy relationships with both parents.

Over the years, Heidi has learned that the questions parents bring to mediation are often only the beginning. Beneath disagreements about schedules, communication, decision-making and parenting time are children trying to make sense of a world that has changed.

That perspective led Heidi to write The Power of Parenthood, a practical, child-focused guide for parents navigating separation, conflict and the complicated work of parenting apart. The book brings together the lessons Heidi has learned from years of sitting with families in conflict, with a simple reminder: children should never have to choose between the people they love.

Heidi's approach is grounded in the belief that family life may change, but the opportunity to create a healthier childhood remains.

She is committed to helping parents slow things down, look beyond the conflict, and ask the question that matters most:

What does this look like from my child's point of view?

Heidi provides family mediation and communication support in private practice, for Alberta Justice Dispute Resolution Services, and, where appointed by the Court, parenting coordination services.

Her goal is simple: to help families move forward in a way that protects the childhood their children are living right now — and the childhood they will remember.

I never thought my Ex and I would be able to have a civil conversation, but Heidi made it possible. I am forever grateful.
